I lead diverse design teams to create inclusive digital products and services that solve problems for users while delivering client's strategic aims. I support, build and scale agile UCD teams to focus on finding out user needs and testing, iterating and building inclusive, accessible and easy-to-use solutions.

I thrive in juggling project management and user-centred design (UCD). Working in the heart of digital transformation for the public sector since 2004, I ensure UCD teams produce quality work that meets the Government Service Standard, whilst aligning with client product and programme roadmaps. I’ve created inclusive, accessible, usable services that meet industry and government standards and pass assessments for clients including; the Home Office, the Police, the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, His Majesty's Courts and Tribunals Service, Crown Prosecution Service, UK Visas & Immigration, NHS Blood and Transplant and the BBC.

Design leadership

I facilitated a workshop to align a diverse and complex stakeholder group on the design direction for a high-profile public inquiry.

Artefacts from the workshop helped to align the team on a strategy and brought consensus and direction.

Case study: Design delivery

As UCD lead on a large programme, my focus was on managing UCD tasks and activities, I created a UCD roadmap that aligned with a complex programme delivery roadmap.

This detailed planning ensured the work of multiple UCD product teams met delivery aims and raised UCD issues and dependencies to senior leaders.

Stakeholder engagement and communication

To provide time-poor stakeholders with frequent project updates I created a series of project update postcards.

These were sent out at the end of each sprint, with the show and tell recording to clearly and succinctly update diverse groups of stakeholders on Discovery progress and findings.

Content leadership

I presented on Content Design for Services at the GOV.UK Content Conference.

As Head of Content Design on the HMCTS Reform programme, I shared learnings about how content design for services reaches far beyond the service and spans the whole user experience.

Empathetic leader with an eye for detail

I've led teams of user researchers, content, service and interaction designers to create quality digital products since 1997. From teams of sub-editing freelancers working on the night shift publishing The Times and The Sun online, through to building and managing a DDAT content design practice of over 20, on the billion-pound HMCTS Reform digital transformation programme.
